Ediorials - Adriana Vasile

I have wanted to write about artist Adriana
Vasile for some time now, but I kept stumbling upon the first, blank page. It
seems to me there are so many things to say about her, that I’m afraid I
wouldn’t be able to include everything.
With excitement, I take courage and start
writing.
The
first works signed by Adriana I saw were the ones that are part of the
“Cosmic” series, at the opening of the exhibition which inaugurated the
space dedicated to art at Metropolis Centre in Bucharest, group exhibition
organized by DanaArtGallery. That’s also when I met Adriana. What “caught” me
about her works, besides the subject that is one of my favorite – the universe
– was the firm, determined hand and the space created, which seemed to
burst from the canvas and take me far away. That’s when I felt I want and must
write about Adriana Vasile. Some months have passed since then and I was
glad for the chance to meet her again and talk. It still seems to me
I don’t know enough, but I believe there are so many things to find out about
the artist’s universe, that I have the feeling this was the cause of my delay
in writing the article.
The
works from this cosmic themed series bring back that everything is relative,
everything is in continued movement and change and us, earthlings, are terribly
limited in our sphere compared to the scale of universal events. Fortunately,
the spirit knows no limits and he seems the only one to hold infinite knowledge.
For these works, Adriana “played” with various materials, from gold leaf to
sand, thus giving the canvases a special dimension, and to the viewer the
impression of being transposed in a world of beginnings.
It
kind of seems unfair not to put here all the photographs I have of Adriana’s
works. I wish I could show you everything and I have a vision with a
house with antique architecture, somewhere outside Bucharest, where exposed,
all the artist’s works would be waiting for you. Who knows, maybe somewhere,
someday, it will happen. And maybe it would be spring and you would be expected
in a garden full of the fragrance of flowers, with lemonade and homemade
delights and we would talk a little in the shade of trees.
The works that tell the story
of Calea Victoriei seem to take you completely into the atmosphere of those
times. The artist’s skill in handling the brush and mixing colors gets me
thinking about the great masters of painting and the artistic frame of 1900
France. I can easily imagine Adriana in those times, at a café with her artist
friends in Montparnasse.
The
ease with which she passes from abstract to concrete is exciting and denotes
the complexity of the artist’s personality. It is as though she is just at the
beginning of the road on the pictorial universe she wants to address, but at
the same time, it is very clear what her art is all about. It is easy to
observe her firm hand, that lays shapes and colors on the canvas, without a
shadow of a doubt of what the outcome will be.
I
have discovered in Adriana a very opened and warm person, ready to offer
support and her knowledge if you need it. I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of
talking to her and I truly wish to see her in front of a canvas, to witness her
creative energy.
The
artist’s ability to render spaces that are so different, makes her art become
masterly. This power of carrying the viewer through a variety of feelings and
poses, means to me, a painter with extraordinary valances, one that confidently
steps on the road to perfection.
Nevertheless,
Adriana is a person, as they say with her feet planted in the ground. She is
well at ease in spaces outside the Earth’s influence, but at the same time is
aware that she is on Earth, in a material world. How can I say this, she is
among the few artists I have met that know how to organize, or how they say in
English, have “a good head for business”. Adriana holds firmly her life’s reins
and manages each compartment, choosing to make her own way, outside the
patterns.
As
I was saying, I can’t not include more of her works in this article, so bellow
you can enjoy some more photos.
Thank
you so much Adriana, not only for the photographs, but also for the meetings
destined for this article. I can only say it’s been a great pleasure and
surely, this is just the beginning of the series of articles about Adriana
Vasile.
